Funding now available – Framlingham and Lower Mt Emu Creek areas

Glenelg Hopkins CMA recently secured funding to assist in the connection of riparian habitat from Framlingham Forest on the Hopkins River, downstream to the junction and upstream on Mt Emu Creek through the Victorian Water Trust’s statewide river ‘High Environmental Return Opportunities’ (HEROs) Program.

This project involves Glenelg Hopkins CMA working in partnership with landholders to carry out 16 km of fencing and revegetation works. It also involves 142 ha of weed control along 32 km of river. In addition, the project will be working in partnership with the Department of Sustainability and Environment's Priority Crown Frontage Licence Review project involving voluntary changes to Water Frontage licensing arrangements.

Landholders with frontage to the Hopkins River in the Framlingham area and along the lower Mt Emu Creek from the Hopkins River to Terang will be contacted and, following a site inspection, offered financial incentives to undertake weed control, fencing and revegetation works on their properties.

The project will finish in December 2010.
