Glenelg Hopkins CMA welcomes its new chairman and board, following the release of CMA boards by Minister for the Environment, Climate Change and Innovation Gavin Jennings this week.

Mr Jennings announced the board members to join Mark Wootton, whose appointment to chairman, was made public in March.

Mr Wootton is the principal/manager of Jigsaw Farms near Hamilton, and is a member of the Ministerial Reference Council for Climate Change Adaptation and Chair of the Climate Institute.

Doug Phillips and Naomi Pye are returning board members. New appointments are Michael Wagg, Graham Lean, Debbie Shea, Coralie Coulson, Sandra Adams and John Sherwood.

Mr Wootton said the new board would provide the region with a mix of business, agricultural and natural resource management expertise.

“The Glenelg Hopkins CMA board has the necessary skills and expertise to work with our community in this new period for natural resource management.”

“The blend of returning board members and new appointees ensures we offer our region experience and continuity along with a new range of skills pertinent to the challenges and opportunities we will face,” he said.

“The CMA boasts dedicated and capable natural resource management staff that will be supported by this board. We are looking forward to an exciting future for Glenelg Hopkins CMA.”

Mr Wootton recognised the commitment of the outgoing chairman, Mr Peter Dark and his board, and said that the Glenelg Hopkins CMA would continue to support its community to manage the environment for natural resource, economic and social wellbeing.

Mr Peter Butcher, Glenelg Hopkins Chief Executive Officer also welcomed the appointment of the new board members who added to the organisation’s capacity through their extensive experience and skills base.

He added that the returning board members provided continuity and support to the new board, ensuring the capacity to move forward from the first meeting.

The Glenelg Hopkins CMA board:
Chairperson - Mark Wootton; Bachelor of Arts, Graduate Diploma in Education and member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Sandra Adams - Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors with extensive experience in the water industry, strategic planning and financial management.

Coralie Coulson - Health Sciences (Orthoptics, specialising in community services and development. She has extensive experience in strategic and business planning.

Dr Graham Lean - Veterinary Science, farm management consultancy, land management and financial advice.

Doug Phillips - Extensive experience in natural resource management, Manager of Greening Australia Victoria’s South West Seedbank and Revegetation Centre.


Naomi Pye - Agriculture and primary education qualifications, primary producer, experienced in rural business management, land management and education.

Debbie Shea - Primary industry and business management qualifications, experience managing a large-scale wool enterprise balancing production and conservation issues.

Dr John Sherwood - Science, philosophy, education and environmental studies qualifications, with extensive experience as a research scientist in freshwater, marine and estuarine systems and environmental management. He is Associate Professor in the School of Life and Environmental Sciences at Deakin University in Warrnambool.

Michael Wagg: Agricultural science and project management qualifications, with extensive experience in natural resource management and community engagement.
